WITH SUMMER UPON US, IT IS SUCH AN EXCITING TIME for most all of us. The school year is about to come to an end and that is always cause for celebration for students, teachers and administrators alike. Family vacations are being planned and anticipated with great eagerness. Not to be left out, the church gets geared up for some exciting things in the summer time as well.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is fast approaching as our dates are June 23-27. I appreciate all the work that is being done to prepare for what promises to be an incredible, life-transforming week as children are taught the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. I encourage you to be praying now for our leaders, teachers, for the children and families who will impacted by this year’s VBS. If you would like to volunteer to help in some area of VBS, please contact Shannon Callahan right away.
SUMMER ALSO BRINGS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CAMPS AND MISSION TRIPS. Our children’s ministry will be offering VBS and other opportunities to gather and our students will be going to Caswell in June. Please be praying now about how God will use those opportunities to challenge and grow our young people and families in their walks with the Lord. Also, three teams are preparing now for mission work this summer. We have teams going to Brazil, Toronto and South Carolina this summer. Please be praying about these opportunities to make a real difference in the lives of people as the gospel is proclaimed through Bible clubs, evangelistic visitations, evangelistic worship services, sports camps and so many other ways.
SUMMER IS ALSO A TIME WHEN YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE INTENTIONAL in your efforts to get to know your neighbors, coworkers, friends a little better. For the past few years we have suspended our Sunday evening activities in the summer months to allow us the opportunity to try to connect with people that we see but rarely take opportunity to get to really know. I encourage you to begin praying now about who you might have over for dessert or a cookout or however the Lord directs you so that you might be able to connect some people this summer with yourself, your family and the gospel of Jesus.
SUMMER IS A GREAT TIME! I love the summer and the opportunity to be outside and among people that I don’t get to see very often. Let me encourage you to be faithful to your church attendance and giving during the summer as well. Vacations are great. I hope to have one too some time later in the summer, but when you are in town, just remember the church is still on its watch and we need you in attendance and serving when you are not away. Thank you for your faithful service and giving!
OH AND LET ME BUT REMIND YOU that when you are away on a Sunday, I encourage you to worship in a church near where you are. However, if that is not possible, then tune in to the Old Town live stream and worship with us from a distance. It can be a great time for you and your family as you worship together with us from your vacation destination. A second reminder is that you can remain current and faithful in your giving when you are away through our new online giving opportunity, which you can find on our website at www.otbclife.org . God is faithful to us all the time! We do not want to allow our summer schedule to reflect a lack of faithfulness on our part.
I close with this powerful benediction written by the Apostle Paul to the Ephesian church:
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
