Positively Grateful

WHILE MY SUMMER HAS BEEN EXTREMELY BUSY SO FAR, I took some time this morning (this is a Thursday morning as I write to you) to reflect on many of the blessings God has and continues to bestow on my life. So I want to take a moment to thank God for some blessings today. I will not name everything for which I am grateful. The Crier would not have space for all of them, but here are a few things for which I am grateful today:

I am grateful for Jesus, my Creator, Savior, Lord and God. The One through Whom and by Whom I have my faith, trust, for- giveness and hope.

I am grateful for my family. They are the ones who encourage, inspire, challenge and love me in spite of all my flaws. I am grateful for how God has expanded our family with Christen’s husband, Jacob, and Jon’s wife, Michaela.

I am grateful for friends. I appreciate the people that care enough about me to invest in my life. They give time. They lend an ear. They offer loving counsel and so much more.

I am grateful for OTBC. I am excited that God has allowed us what will soon be 21 years together. Over these nearly 21 years, we have been blessed in many ways. We have faced many challenges together. We have rejoiced together. We have grieved together. We have worked together. We have played together. We have done life together with all of its highs and some of its lows. The key is that we have done it together. I am so thankful for each person that comprises the family of faith called Old Town.

I am grateful that God chooses to bless His church at Old Town with life. Where there is life, there is activity. No activity is a clear sign of no life. Now busyness does not necessarily equate with effectiveness, but God is using OTBC to be an effective witness for His truth and love in many ways.

I am grateful for the staff that God assembled at OTBC. I appreciate the opportunity to serve with each one that God has brought along side of me for such a time as this.

I am grateful for the things that God has allowed us to be part of over the years and especially now:

There are believers who gather in places in Brazil who are new to the faith and some who are encouraged in their faith and some who are serving in ministry now because in part of the ministry of OTBC over the past several years and because of God’s blessing in our most recent visit. I ask you to pray that God will see fit to raise up one, two or more churches in places where His Word needs to be heard and received.

There are people coming to faith among a people group in SE Asia that a few years ago were mainly unnoticed by the Christian world. Yet, God has chosen OTBC to be the catalyst to help take the gospel to these people.

There are people in Toronto who are hearing the good news of the gospel because of our partnership with like-minded servants of His who serve in the Greater Toronto Area. Our team just returned from Toronto and did an exceptional job of sharing Christ with children and adults. Lives are being changed because the grace of God, the power of the gospel and the faithfulness and obedience of the people of OTBC.

There are people of different ethnicities and religious backgrounds in Greenville, SC who are experiencing the love and grace of the Lord Jesus through a team of our folks who partnered with some of our friends who are faithfully sharing Christ with these folks. I encourage your faithful prayers for them as they serve there.

There are people in a community just on the other side of town from where we are located, the Waughtown community, that have heard the good news of Jesus and experienced the touch of His love because of some of the efforts from some people in OTBC as we continue our partnership with Pastor Joe and Duncan and the ministry of Rise Church in that community.

There are children and students who are coming to faith in Christ and growing in their faith.

There are parents who are learning to become the primary faith teachers of their children.

We are continuing to grow in our worship as we learn to apply what we do on Sunday to our daily lives.

We seek to diligently teach God’s Word weekly when we gather so that the truth of His Word impacts our lives so that we might more effectively be witnesses of Him wherever we go and so that our lives might bring Him glory.

So there is much for which I am grateful on this day as I think about OTBC.

I am thankful for you. Thank you for reading this article. Thank you for being part of God’s church called Old Town. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your giving! Let’s continue to do all we can to “connect people to new life in Christ!”

One final word: October 13-16, 2019!!! Please mark these dates on your calendar!

We have set these dates aside as a time when the church will gather and we will collectively seek the Lord! Pastor Kevin Brown will preach for us, but this is a time where we are asking God to do something miraculous among us! We will be sharing with you a concerted prayer effort beginning about 40 days prior to the start of the services, but please don’t wait to start praying! Please hold these dates and this opportunity as top priority on your calendar! Let’s approach these next two months with antici- pation and fervent prayer as we seek the Lord together.
