The Richness of God's Mercy

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ, (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:4-7)

AS THE CALENDAR TURNS TO APRIL THIS YEAR, our thoughts turn toward Spring and Easter. Once again believers all over the world will pause and reflect upon the events of our Lord’s final week of earthly ministry.

JESUS’ DEATH AND RESURRECTION along with His virgin birth and sinless life are what set Christianity apart from every other religion in the world. We worship, serve and follow our risen, living Lord! The heavenly messenger asked the most penetrating question at the empty tomb on that first resurrection morning:

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!”

FAR TOO OFTEN WE INVEST TOO MUCH TIME, ENERGY AND EFFORT looking for and chasing after that which is dead and yet we are called upon to be heralds of a message that contains life. That which God has done for us through His Son Jesus is absolutely amazing! God’s love expressed toward us is beyond comprehension really. We did nothing to warrant His love and yet by His grace, He lavished His love upon us as His Son died in our place and then was raised to life on the third day so that we might have forgiveness, hope and life abundant and eternal! The riches that God has in store for His people are beyond our understanding and certainly beyond anything we could ever warrant or deserve. Yet, God through His grace, kindness, mercy and unconditional love has made a way through Jesus that we might experience and receive the blessing of His eternal riches.

AS WE PREPARE TO CELEBRATE THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION of Jesus again this year, I hope you will be mindful of all that Jesus has done for you so that you might have forgiveness and hope! Furthermore, I hope that you will be mindful of the people around you who have yet to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and thus have not yet received the blessing of forgiveness and hope. I encourage and exhort you to share your faith story with some people over these next few weeks. You can read elsewhere in the Crier about our Easter week services schedule. This is the perfect time to share your story and invite some folks to join you for church services.

WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF DARKNESS AND LOSTNESS. We want to be instruments through which God can work to “impact lostness through disciple-making.” We have a vision. We have a strategy. The fields are white unto harvest, but the workers are few. We must be sharing the gospel in every opportunity the Lord places before us. We cannot miss this moment. The spiritual health of our community and our worlds of influence is at stake, not to mention the eternal destiny of the people all around us.

IN THE LIGHT OF ALL GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU THROUGH JESUS, what will you do? Where will you go? With whom will you share your story? Who will you invite to join you for church services this month? Whoever God just placed in your mind is your responsibility. Please take this seriously and let’s work together to make a difference for Jesus’ sake in our community by sharing Jesus with our family members, friends, classmates, neighbors, coworkers, everyone we can!

AS WE DO WHAT WE ARE EMPOWERED AND EQUIPPED TO DO, God will be pleased with our obedience. His Kingdom will be enlarged as people come to faith in Jesus. The church will grow in number and in influence. Our lives, families, church and all our relationships will be strengthened by the power of God at work in and through the lives of His people.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

MAY GOD BLESS YOU! HAPPY EASTER! SEE YOU SUNDAY!
