The Onset of Spring

I KNOW THE MONTH OF MARCH BRINGS THE ONSET OF SPRING, however as I write this article, I am expecting another warm February day as we have experienced so many this year. It is not uncommon for February for us to look out our windows and be expecting snow or at least a frosty morning. We have certainly been blessed this February with unseasonably warm days. While I am not complaining about the warm days, I enjoy snow days as well. I love the beauty of snow. I know it causes travel problems and affects school, work and of course church schedules, but still I love to see the snow.

THE SNOW-COVERED LANDSCAPE REMINDS ME OF GOD’S TRUTH ALSO. In Isaiah, chapter 1, we find this beautiful nugget of truth:

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be white as snow;

Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.” (1:18)

God has taken ours sins and forgiven them and cleansed us so that we may be made “white as snow.” We know that He accomplished this through the scarlet blood of His Son who bled and died at Calvary’s cross so that we might have forgiveness of our sins. Furthermore, we know that He raised Jesus from the dead on the third day so that we might have hope for all eternity! We have forgiveness and eternal life because God took our scarlet sins and made them white as snow through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. How incredibly blessed we are! Thank You Jesus!

SO AS YOU LOOK AT THE SNOW THAT FALLS IN OUR AREA SOMETIMES, be reminded of God’s truth expressed through the snow and the relationship we are able to have with Him because of how Jesus has reconciled us to the Father through His sacrificial atoning death and His sin-defeating, grave-overcoming, life-giving resurrection!

ALSO I WANT TO SIMPLY REMIND YOU THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE in our communities and in our world who do not know about Jesus the Savior. That’s why we must tell His story to a lost and dying world! That’s why we must be consistently involved in evangelism and missions. That’s why we must be constantly praying!

FOR SEVERAL WEEKS WE HAVE BEEN IN A STUDY ON PRAYER. ON MARCH 31st, our prayer study will culminate with a very special day of prayer. We will be having a “Concert of Prayer” led by Dr. Chris Schofield. Dr. Schofield is the Director of the Office of Prayer and Spiritual Awakening for the Baptist State Convention of NC. He is the man God placed on my heart to come and lead us in this most timely Concert of Prayer. Our service times will be normal. Dr. Schofield will lead us in our 8:30 and 11:00 am worship services. He will also lead us that evening at 5:00 pm. Please mark your calendars so as not to miss this very special day in the life of OTBC.

ALSO, BE SURE TO RESERVE YOUR LUNCH FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 24th when we will celebrate the church family coming together for one service and lunch. When we celebrated our 20th anniversary together last October, one of the comments that I heard over and over was that we need to do this more often. I heard you and we rather quickly planned for another day together on March 24th. Be sure to call the church office and reserve your spot for lunch. I am so excited to have Pastor Kevin Brown, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, to come and speak for us this day. Pastor Kevin is a dear friend and has been for nearly 30 years. I was with him last week and he is very excited about coming and sharing with us here at OTBC. Kevin is a powerful communicator of the truth of God’s Word. You will not want to miss this special one service day!

WE HAVE A LOT OF EXCITING THINGS HAPPENING AT OTBC! I am grateful to our Lord for His abundant blessings.
