All Things Made New

AS I DROVE TO THE CHURCH THIS MORNING, I was struck by the beauty of the day and this time of year. I realize that for some, myself included to some extent, that this time of year causes allergies to emerge and makes breathing more difficult for some folks. We’ve had a boatload of rain in the past few days. However, it is still such a beautiful season. I noticed deep green grass, azaleas blooming in colors of red, white and pink. I saw other flowers of yellow, purple and various other beautiful hues. Many trees are blooming with differing colors as well. The sun is shining. It is just a beautiful morning.

AS THE CREATION COMES BACK TO LIFE AFTER ITS WINTER SLEEP, I am reminded of the new life we are given in Christ. I found Paul’s words to the Corinthians echoing in my head this morning when he wrote:

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things are passed away; behold, new things have come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

ISN’T THAT JUST AN AMAZING TRUTH? God takes us when we are dead, and through faith in Christ by His grace, pours new life into us. When He does that, all the old things are passed away. Every sin is forgiven and we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Everything about us is transformed. All the old things are passed away and new things take their place.

WE HAVE A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST! We have forgiveness. We have cleansing. We have new direction. We have new purpose. We have grace. We have mercy. We have peace. We have love. We have the assignment to make Jesus known to the world and the challenge to live our lives in such a way so as to bring glory to His Name. Wow! What an awesome God we serve!

OUR GOD IS CONSTANTLY WORKING TO MAKE THINGS NEW IN OUR LIVES! He is not finished doing so even when our time is finished here on this earth. Consider these words from the book of Revelation:

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

(Revelation 21:1-5)

OUR GOD IS A GOD OF NEWNESS! As the season of Spring comes into full bloom, we are reminded of the glory of newness. As God works in our lives to continually mold and shape us into the image of His Son, He is continually seeking to work a new work in our lives. There is coming a day when He shall take us to His place of ultimate newness, to our eternal home in heaven.

I SIMPLY ASK YOU TO CONSIDER THIS QUESTION: What new thing is God seeking to do in your life in these days? As you figure that out, don’t resist Him or the change He is seeking to bring. Embrace Him and the change. Be excited about it! Know that you are living in obedience to Him and His Word as you embrace the new things that God is doing in your life in these days! Let’s continue to seek Him together in these days! As we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. Let’s continue to pray together for God to bring a great spiritual awakening, renewal, revival to our lives, His church and the community in which we live. Let’s continue to seek Him and ask Him to use us to be the catalysts of something “new” that He brings about in our midst.
